Strawberry Point Pull-Out Facility

Strawberry Point Development Fund, Inc. presents the newest addition to the Strawberry Point Industrial Park, ITC Midwest LLC. A Strawberry Point Pull-out facility investing in energy reliability and the community.

ITC Midwest LLC is building a storage and “pull out” facility in Strawberry Point to support its work to improve the reliability of the region’s electric transmission system.

ITC will use the facility, located on Highway 3/13 south of Strawberry Point, to store equipment and serve as a show-up site for crews working on electric transmission construction and maintenance project in the area.

The facility will serve as a satellite field location, allowing the company to more quickly dispatch crews and equipment to make repairs or perform maintenance. The company’s nearest full-service warehouse is located in Dubuque, approximately 50 miles to the east. ITC chose the Strawberry Point site based on its central location in the midst of several projects currently underway in the region and planned for the future.

The facility will feature a 7,500-sq. foot heated warehouse/storage building with large overhead door and fenced yard to store equipment. The facility will be completed and begin service by the end of 2012.
ITC, which owns and operates electric transmission lines in the region, already has a large presence in the area. The company owns more than 6,600 miles of lines in Iowa and Minnesota, including approximately 100 miles of line in Clayton County. ITC paid nearly $60,000 in property taxes to the county in 2011.

Keep checking back for updates!

Earth Day

Earth Day is coming!

I am collecting InkJet Printer cartridges, and LaserJet Ink cartridges, for a fundraiser. I am also collecting old cellular phones.

Did you know:

Cellular Phone Facts:

Cell phones are consistently being up-graded or damaged; which means there are roughly over a 100 million cell-phones that are obsolete each year. The average life span of a cell-phone is just 18 months. The Average cell-phone user owns three or more cellular phones. There are 75% of non-used cell-phones that are stockpiled in drawers; including the battery and charger. Believe it or not, there is a proper way to dispose of a cellular phone. Cellular phone’s coating is made of lead, and the lithium-ion batteries can explode if exposed to high temperatures, or direct sunlight. A working phone could be donated to people with disabilities or shelters for battered women, because any cellular phone can dial 911 regardless of its service.
The printer cartridges takes over 1,000 years per cartridge to disappear from our Earth. Why not donate them for a fundraiser instead?

Bring your ink cartridges or old cellular phones to the Development Fund's office for recycle at 105 W. Mission Street.

County-Wide Brochure!

Here is a SNEAK-PEEK of our new County Brochure! We have worked so hard on this brochure. I think it has turned out nicely, and I cannot wait until everyone gets to see it. Keep checking back I will post more "sneak-peeks". Enjoy!

Where are they now? Pt 2

Our next “Where are they now” …I enjoyed this story. I always watch KWWL, but not generally on the weekends. I am going to watch it now just to see Danielle Wagner.

I lived in Strawberry Point and attended Starmont from kindergarten through sixth grade. I remember playing softball, being on the swim team and sledding at the school hill. The summer between sixth and seventh grades my family moved to Oelwein to be closer to my mom's job at the hospital. Many people in town know my mom, Melinda (Seedorff) Wagner. She grew up in Strawberry Point and graduated from Starmont. Her dad founded SMI. My grandma, Darlene Brady, was also from Strawberry Point. My aunt, Lisa Seedorff, still lives in town.

Now, I'm an anchor/reporter at KWWL Television based in Waterloo. I started at the station in December of 2006. Before then, I was a reporter at KTVO in Ottumwa. I was only there for a little more than a year before getting a call from KWWL asking me to interview for an open reporter position. I started at KWWL as a general assignment reporter (covering the news of the day), and I was promoted to weekend morning anchor in October 2007.

I still anchor the news from 8 to 9 a.m. each Saturday and Sunday. I started our weekend pet segment, a monthly sweet tooth segment and monthly segments with a Hy-Vee dietitian. Besides weekends, I also report during the week doing feature stories for my "Someone You Should Know" segment. Those stories air each Sunday and Monday during the KWWL news at 10 p.m.

I'm very passionate about animals. I live in Waterloo with my dog, Cubbie. When I'm not working, I enjoy taking Cubs on walks and reading and watching sports (mostly football). I've organized several fundraisers for the Cedar Bend Humane Society in Waterloo. For several years I've organized a "Dog Day" at the ballpark with the Waterloo Bucks.

I graduated from Oelwein High School in 2001 and from the University of Iowa in 2005 with a degree in journalism and history. I'm an Iowa girl through and through. I've never lived in another state, and I don't have plans to leave.

My parents (Dave and Melinda Wagner) live in Oelwein. Mom still works at the hospital, and Dad is retired. People might also remember my younger brothers. Derek is 26 and works for Alliant Energy in Cedar Rapids. Devin is 22 and graduates from the University of Iowa in May 2012. He already has a job as an engineer at a company in Cedar Rapids.

You can call me at the Chamber office 563-933-4417 to nominate, or you can e-mail me at chamber@strawberrypt.com. Each winner will also get their picture taken and the “Nominate Your Neighbor Winner” sign for the month. Who will be our first winner; nominate your neighbor today!
